Working through the Aldi Home Creation crochet set, that I was gifted for Christmas, felt like sitting down with a well‑planned mini project: everything needed for the capybara was already in the box, from hook to stuffing. The included yarn and fiberfill were more than enough, so there was no yarn‑chicken stress even though the finished capybara ended up around 20 cm / 8 inch tall, which gives it a nice, huggable presence.
The pattern itself was clear and beginner‑friendly, very similar in structure to other capybara amigurumi patterns that focus on simple shapes and dense stitches for a sturdy toy. Because all tools and materials come bundled, this kit is especially suitable for newer crocheters who want to try amigurumi without first researching hook sizes, yarn types, and stuffing options.

The only part that did not quite match expectations was the nose: following the written instructions produced a circle that looked different from the box photo and felt off compared to the typical long, soft capybara snout. Many capybara patterns emphasize nose shaping because it defines the character’s expression, so it made sense to tweak this element rather than accept a look that did not fit the reference image.
Instead of keeping the original nose piece, I ripped back the work and replaced with a freely crocheted rectangle: starting from 6 chain stitches, then building up into a simple, elongated shape with slightly edgier corners that sat more naturally on the face. This small modification echoed the longer snouts seen in other capybara designs and brought the finished toy much closer to the aesthetic promised by the packaging.
If you’ve used this or a similar capybara kit, would you keep the original nose or improvise your own version for a better match to the picture?
I think this kit was worth to try, beginner-friendly, though I would advise the product owners at the company to revise the nose pattern part for better satisfaction with the result. The provided tools were simple, it was nice that they have added a metal needle for sewing the parts together. (In an earlier kit I have tried, there was a plastic needle included, that broke during the figurine assembly.)
